PROJECT DETAILS

Bryngolwg Solar Farm will have an approximate installed capacity of 7 MW and is located to the east of the village of Rhigos. The solar energy generated will be exported to the local distribution network and will be enough to power over 3,700 homes per year.

The development will have several key benefits, including but not limited to:

  • The solar farm will generate clean, renewable electricity, the key to helping the Welsh Government, which declared a climate emergency in 2019, meet its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

  • Due to the topography and existing vegetation, the site is not visible from the village of Rhigos. The fields were carefully selected to fit within the landscape shielded by existing hedgerows.

  • We worked with expert ecologists to ensure there will be significant biodiversity enhancements. All existing hedgerows and trees will be retained and protected while gaps will be re-planted with native species. A marsh grass habitat supporting purple moor grass will be retained to protect and maintain the marshy grasslands, and support local ecological networks, and the rare Marsh Fritillary Butterfly.

  • The panels will require minimal ground fitting, without concrete footings. Sheep could continue to graze between and underneath the panels providing natural habitat management.

*Note: Estimates based on 3,600kWh/annum average home consumption and CO2 grid intensity of 181g/kWh.
