PROJECT DETAILS

Newfields BESS will be able to store and release energy to the local distribution network. It will have a storage capacity of up to 99.9 MW.

The site was carefully selected for its proximity to existing electricity infrastructure including the Cellarhead Substation. The close proximity to the substation provides many advantages including screening to the northern and eastern boundaries of the site and a minimal cable route to the point of connection.

The proposed development is situated 1.3km north of Werrington, covering around 0.6 hectares. The broader site will also include access points and incorporate new trees, hedgerows, and wildflower planting, contributing to an overall biodiversity net gain.

We have worked closely with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue service to ensure they are happy with the design of the site. Following their advice we have improved the access track and made adjustments to the provision of water should it be needed in the unlikely event of an incident.

The planning application was submitted in January 2024.
