PROJECT DETAILS

Tamworth Solar Farm will be located on parcels of land to the east of Amington Hall Farm, Tamworth, B79 0ED. It consists of small to medium sized agricultural fields which are currently used for cultivating crops and grazing.

The proposed development will export 30MW into the local electricity network, which equates to powering around 11,500 homes a year with clean, renewable energy. This will make a vital contribution to climate change targets and the country’s transition away from fossil fuels.

Tamworth Solar Farm will contribute to the county’s growing need for clean electricity generation. It will be key to addressing these challenges and will serve the area’s future energy needs. It will have five main objectives:

  • Support the UK’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and the interim target of a 78% reduction by 2035

  • Contribute to the climate emergency declared by the Government and Tamworth Borough Council in 2019

  • Help secure the country’s green energy system by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy, which also contributes to reducing fuel poverty

  • Enable continuation of agriculture during operation

  • Significantly increase biodiversity of the site

Tamworth Solar Farm was granted planning permission in October 2023.
