PROJECT DETAILS

Steeraway Solar Farm will have an approximate installed capacity of 30 MW and is located on land at Steerway Farm, Limekiln Lane, Wellington. The solar energy generated will be exported to the local distribution network and will be enough to power over 11,000 homes per year.

The development will have several key benefits:

  • The solar farm will generate clean, renewable electricity, key to helping Telford and Wrekin Council, meet its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050

  • The site will be screened from residential properties by existing trees and the elevated M54 motorway. Mature trees will screen views from The Wrekin, Shropshire Hills AONB and public footpaths

  • The development will dramatically increase biodiversity compared with the existing site by approximately 100% in habitat and 50% in hedgerows. Sheep will be able to graze around and under the solar panels.

*Note: Estimates based on 3,600kWh/annum average home consumption and CO2 grid intensity of 181g/kWh.
